The Bob A. Saldanha Memorial Golf and Wine Event to benefit Kenmore Mercy Foundation was held at Legends on the Niagara in Ontario, Canada on Thursday, June 17, 2010. This unique event which includes two 18-hole golf tournaments and VIP Wine Tour & Tasting netted a record $159,000. The event was a complete sell-out, entertaining 240 golfers and 60 wine tour guests, including the voice of the Buffalo Sabres, Rick Jeanneret, former Buffalo Sabres Defenseman, Andrew Peters and the Mayor of Fort Erie, Doug Martin.
The event committee along with co-chairs Robert Beck of John W. Danforth Company and Anthony Amigone, Jr. of Amigone Funeral Home are thrilled with the generosity of the local business community. Says Beck; “We are honored to sponsor a great day of golf & wine tasting to support Kenmore Mercy Hospital! The support of wonderful sponsors like: Petri Baking Products, John W. Danforth Company, Rural/Metro Medical Services, Richard and Karen Penfold and the Saldanha family are essential to the success of the golf tournament.”
The amount raised from this year’s event will help fund the purchase of medical equipment and staff education programs for Kenmore Mercy Hospital in 2010.

Our tournament’s name honors the late Robert “Bob” A. Saldanha. He was a beloved member of the Western New York community and a tireless advocate for worthy causes.
Bob was born on June 7, 1937 in Bombay, India. He attended St. Xavier’s College in Bombay and obtained his bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Bombay. After a period of working for Air India and traveling the world, he married his wife, Anne, in 1967 and emigrated to the U.S. the following year.
Bob and Anne settled in Buffalo and, while working full-time for Liberty National Bank, he attended Canisius College and became a member of Canisius’ first MBA graduating class in 1973. After 15 years experience in finance for major consumer brands, Bob showed his entrepreneurial zeal when he founded his own company in 1984. He served as president of Total Facilities Services in Buffalo until his untimely passing in 2004.
While Anne spent 36 years in Pathology at Kenmore Mercy, Bob was a dedicated member of the KMH Foundation Golf Committee and a strong advocate for the hospital. The Saldanha family is equally dedicated to KMH and, especially, the hospital’s foundation which provides so many needed programs and services to our community.
While Bob’s greatest passion in life was his love for family and friends, his love for golf ran a close second! Bob taught himself to play and derived much joy and satisfaction from his time on the links. Take a lesson from Bob and enjoy some time on the links (or at the winery)!
2009 Golf Tournament Still at Par Even Through Tough Economic Times
Despite tough economic times, the Bob A. Saldanha Memorial Golf and Wine Event to benefit Kenmore Mercy Hospital netted a record $157,000, which is the largest amount ever raised at the fundraiser, which is now in its fifth year.
Held at Legends on the Niagara in Ontario, Canada on June 18, the tournament, which includes two 18-hole golf flights & VIP Wine Tour & Tasting, has traditionally sold out. While the number of participants remained the same as in previous years, donations increased by seven percent over the last year.
Event co-chairs Richard (Dick) Penfold, and Anne Saldanha, MD, wife of the late Robert “Bob” A. Saldanha, whom the tournament is held in honor of, along with the event committee are pleasantly surprised with the results. “We are thrilled and very touched that our wonderful community can continue to give to such levels to support Kenmore Mercy Hospital.”
The tournament was sponsored by HSBC and other sponsors including the Penfold family, Petri Baking Products, Inc., the Habib Family and the Saldanha Family. Next year’s event will be held on June 17th 2010!
