Kenmore Mercy Hospital Foundation

Supporting Kenmore Mercy Hospital Since 1980

Our Mission

The mission of Kenmore Mercy Foundation is to raise charitable contributions to provide key financial support to Kenmore Mercy Hospital for educational programs, patient services, and capital projects.

Message from the Foundation President:

On behalf of the Kenmore Mercy Foundation Board of Trustees, Volunteers and Staff, I would like to welcome you to our website.

I am proud to say that 2010 has been a record setting year. Because of the support of our many donors and volunteers, our Annual Fund is on track to surpass our goals with five months left in the year.

The Foundation’s goal to increase funding for Kenmore Mercy Hospital in 2010 has been met. We are funding $51,000 for equipment purchases, $30,000 for Staff Education and $27,500 in department Mini-Grants in addition to making the final payment on our 5-year $2.2 million commitment.

Our Staff Education program has sent 44 Hospital Associates to numerous conferences and training seminars and, to date, our Mini-Grants program has funded new equipment in 12 different departments.

Even during these challenging financial times our first special event of the year, The Bob A. Saldanha Memorial Golf & Wine Event netted an all time high of $159,000 to support the Hospital; surpassing its goal by $19,000. This is the largest amount ever raised in the event’s history!

Planning is currently underway for our second special event of the year; “A Tribute to Angels”, which is scheduled for Friday, November 19, 2010 at the Buffalo/Niagara Marriott. Please check our events page to see updates for this year’s event & save the date to join us on November 19th for this wonderful evening. The recipients of this year’s Sister Mary Mechtilde Memorial Award will be announced shortly.

The first half of the year has had many exciting achievements to celebrate and we’re hoping the remaining months bring similar outcomes.  Please enjoy our website as we post our progress. I would like to take this time to thank you for your support of Kenmore Mercy Foundation and Kenmore Mercy Hospital and wish you a safe and healthy summer!

Sincerely,

Nancy R. Dobson

Sister Mary Mechtilde & Lifetime Achievement Award Honorees Announced

Sistery Mary Mechtilde O'Connor, foundress and first administrator of Kenmore Mercy Hospital.

"Tribute to Angels" Committee Chair Jim Rykowski is pleased to announce the recipients of this year's Sister Mary Mechtilde Memorial Award are Dr. Michael Landi and Dr. Jeffrey Meilman. This year's event is scheduled for Friday, November 19th at 6:30 pm at the Buffalo/Niagara Marriott Hotel. This prestigious award is Kenmore's highest honor, established in 1980 by the Kenmore Mercy Foundation. It recognizes outstanding individuals who have demonstrated a dedication to community service, visionary leadership and the ideals of unselfish service towards others. These qualities were exemplified by Sister Mary Mechtilde O'Connor, RSM, foundress and first administrator of Kenmore Mercy Hospital.

In addition, the Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Katherine Koessler Juhasz.  Additionally a special Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Marty Winnert (posthumously). Marty was not only an integral part of the Foundation Board, the Hospital and the Sisters of Mercy, but a wonderful friend and mentor as well. The Lifetime Achievement Award was created to honor an individual who has been active and supportive of the Foundation, for many years. The presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award is a fitting tribute to individuals whose years of unwavering spirit and determination have benefited our hospital and our community.

Join us for an evening of fine wine, cuisine, silent and live auctions and fellowship as we pay tribute to these dedicated individuals. A table of 10 is a $2,500 contribution and individual tickets are $200.  For details on the various event sponsorship levels, call Christina Lapsley, Manager of Special Events, at (716) 447-6777.

The Bob A. Saldanha Memorial Golf and Wine Event to benefit Kenmore Mercy Foundation was held at Legends on the Niagara in Ontario, Canada on Thursday, June 17, 2010.   This unique event which includes two 18-hole golf tournaments and VIP Wine Tour & Tasting netted a record $159,000.   The event was a complete sell-out, entertaining 240 golfers and 60 wine tour guests, including the voice of the Buffalo Sabres, Rick Jeanneret, former Buffalo Sabres Defenseman, Andrew Peters and the Mayor of Fort Erie, Doug Martin.

The event committee along with co-chairs Robert Beck of John W. Danforth Company and Anthony Amigone, Jr. of Amigone Funeral Home are thrilled with the generosity of the local business community.   Says Beck; “We are honored to sponsor a great day of golf & wine tasting to support Kenmore Mercy Hospital! The support of wonderful sponsors like: Petri Baking Products, John W. Danforth Company, Rural/Metro Medical Services, Richard and Karen Penfold and the Saldanha family are essential to the success of the golf tournament.”

The amount raised from this year’s event will help fund the purchase of medical equipment and staff education programs for Kenmore Mercy Hospital in 2010.

 Kenmore Mercy Foundation Wheelchair Blessing

On March 26th Kenmore Mercy Foundation hosted a wheelchair blessing for 29 new wheelchairs for Kenmore Mercy Hospital. The decision to purchase new wheelchairs came from strong feedback from the 2009 Kenmore Mercy Hospital Voice of the Associate Survey.   There is an ongoing need for wheelchairs as they are used all over our hospital for patients being discharged, surgical patients, patients undergoing rehab and others who need to be transported between departments. The Foundation’s A Tribute to Angels event held in November included a “Fund an Item" segment raising $12,500 which allowed participants to make donations directly to "purchase" wheelchairs for the hospital.  The Kenmore Mercy Hospital Auxiliary also raised funds to support the purchase of the wheelchairs by hosting specialty sales and through sales from their sewing group.

The wheelchair blessing took place at 11:00 AM in the atrium of Kenmore Mercy Hospital before the wheelchairs were distributed to each department.
