Richard Penfold is a member of the Kenmore Mercy Foundation Board of Trustees and has been a longstanding supporter of Kenmore Mercy Hospital and Kenmore Mercy Foundation since the early 1990s; with Dick serving as Chairman of the Board of Trustees from 1992-1997.
Richard spent many years growing the Penfold family business into a regional environmental service company from 1974 until they sold the business in 1998. Throughout his time owning and operating the group of C.I.D. companies, Richard has supported numerous local non-profit organizations.
Over the years, he has remained involved with St. Mary's High School in Lancaster, Sisters of Mercy of Buffalo, Canisius College, Buffalo State College, Trocaire College, Foundation of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo, numerous St. Bernadette R.C. Church Committees, St. Francis High School, Immaculata Academy, Buffalo & Erie County Historical Society Pan American Expo 2001 Celebration, American Heart Association, Bishop's Council of the Laity, Sisters of Mercy 21st Century Club and Legacy Society, as well as many more!
Richard has served as past member of the VIVE, Inc. Board, Hamburg Racquet Club, Inc Board Chair, Environmental Industry Association, NYS Solid Waste Disposal Steering Committee, the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, and the Republican Leadership Council. Currently Dick serves as an Emeritus Board Member of the Buffalo & Erie Co. Historical Society and he also supports the Erie County Agricultural Society, Annual Penfold Open, Kenmore Mercy Foundation Bob A. Saldanha Memorial Golf Tournament, Kenmore Mercy Foundation Tribute to Angels and is a member of the US Tennis Association.
Dick's past awards and recognitions include: Buffalo & Erie Co. Historical Society Red Jacket Award , Leukemia & Lymphoma Society "Service to Mankind Award" ; Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greater Buffalo "Presidents Award" ; Suburban Adult Services, Inc. "Foundation for the Future Award" ; Kenmore Mercy Foundation's A Tribute to Angels "Sister Mary Mechtilde Memorial Award" ; Hamburg Chamber of Commerce "Business Recognition Award ; Ernst & Young, Inc. Magazine and Merrill Lynch Entrepreneur of the Year Award ; Hamburg Republican Committee "Civic and Humanitarian Award"  and the St. Francis High School "Father Justin Figas Memorial Award" .
In 2009 the Kenmore Mercy Foundation Board of Trustees was honored to add the "Lifetime Achievement Award" presented at the Foundation's A Tribute to Angels event to this very prestigious list!
